Fair Trade at Dorchester House

At Dorchester House bed and breakfast we endeavour to use as many as possible locally products, however certain items have to imported to this country.

With many of these items we choose to purchase for the bed and breakfast Fairtrade products. Our bed and breakfast has been a member of the Fairtrade in Keswick since 2002 and use in the business Fairtrade products such as tea, coffee, sugar, marmalade and bananas.

We are delighted at our bed and breakfast to part of the Keswick Fairtrade which is recognised as one of leading centres for Fairtrade. Keswick became a Fairtrade Town in 2005 and Cumbria became a Fairtrade county in 2006.

Why we at Dorchester House bed and breakfast feel it is important to be part of Fairtrade:

  • Creates a sustainable business to small scale farmers in developing countries by paying stable prices for their products
  • Provides benefits in these countries to the whole communities by a social premium for invest in schools, clinics and water supplies.
  • Enables producers to plan ahead by encouraging long term trading arrangements.
  • More money goes directly to the producers by minimising the middle men.
  • It helps to protect the environment because the farmers practise sustainable farming.

These are some of the reasons we at our bed and breakfast decided to support Fairtrade, if you want any further information visit the Keswick Fairtrade on www.fairtradekeswick.org.uk or the Fairtrade Foundation on www.fairtrade.org.uk.
